Danny van Poppel secures a stage win in the British stage race, Nils Politt finishes ninth in the general classification.

A stage victory, six podium finishes, and a ninth place in the general classification – BORA-hansgrohe’s record at this year’s Tour of Britain is impressive. The German team demonstrated its top-level form from the start of the British national tour, contending for the win in nearly every one of the total eight stages. “In eight stages, we were on the podium six times, and we also secured a stage victory. That’s something we can be proud of,” the team’s sports director, Jens Zemke, expressed his satisfaction.

The highlight for BORA-hansgrohe was the victory of Dutchman Danny van Poppel on the sixth stage from Southend-on-Sea to Harlow. After Team Jumbo-Visma had dominated all previous bunch sprints, van Poppel had the fastest legs in a tight finish, narrowly beating British rider Ethan Vernon and Norwegian Tord Gudmestad in a photo finish.

Until the final day, van Poppel was also within striking distance in the overall standings at second place but couldn’t keep his podium position in the hilly finale. In the end, Nils Politt was the best BORA-hansgrohe rider in the general classification. He secured ninth place in the standings after a spirited performance on the closing stage. Zemke praised his team: “Even if we missed the podium, Nils pulled it together in the end. Overall, it was a strong showing by the team here at the Tour of Britain.”
