At the South African Cycling Championships last week, U19 rider Josh Johnson claimed the South African U19 national time trial title. It was Johnson’s first victory in his first race for grenke - Auto Eder.A perfect debut. Josh Johnson's performance at the South African U19 Road Championships, held From February 7 to 9, couldn't have been better. The 16-year-old talent from Grenke - Auto Eder, the U19 team of Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, delivered a strong ride in the junior individual time trial, claiming the South African national title in impressive fashion.On the 22-kilometer course in Midvaal, Johnson showcased his skills, stopping the clock at 26:51 minutes with an average speed of 49.162 km/h—a performance that underlined his potential in his first year in the U19 category. &nbsp;“This victory means a lot to me,” Johnson said after securing the title. “It’s my first national championship win in U19 and my first victory for Grenke - Auto Eder. A perfect way to start the season and a big motivation for what’s ahead.”While the ITT race went perfectly, the 138-kilometer road race on Sunday presented a different challenge. In a chaotic race around Midvaal, heavily influenced by race control’s decisions, Johnson was unable to fight for victory due to a race neutralization and ultimately finished in fifth place. “Of course, I had bigger expectations for the road race,” Johnson admitted. “But sometimes, things don’t go as planned, and you can’t control the circumstances. Still, I take a lot of positives from this weekend. I’m excited for what’s coming next and can’t wait to race with the team in Europe.”David de Klerk, Performance Coach on the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe Rookies development team, was satisfied with Johnson's performance: “I was really pleased with Josh’s performance in the ITT. I knew going in that he was the likely winner if he put in a good ride—and he delivered a fantastic one! To win by 58 seconds on a 26-minute course is a strong statement. For the road race, there are always more variables at play. Unfortunately, due to organizational circumstances, he didn’t get the chance to truly race for the win. Nachwuchsfahrer Josh Johnson holte sich vergangene Woche bei den südafrikanischen Meisterschaften den Titel im U19-Zeitfahren. Es war sein erster Sieg im ersten Rennen für grenke - Auto Eder.Ein Einstand nach Maß. So kann man Josh Johnsons Auftritt bei den südafrikanischen U19-Straßenmeisterschaften vom 7. bis 9. Februar durchaus beschreiben. Direkt zum Auftakt zeigte das 16-jährige Talent von grenke - Auto Eder, dem U19-Team von Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, eine starke Leistung im Einzelzeitfahren der Junioren und sicherte sich eindrucksvoll den südafrikanischen Meistertitel.Auf dem 22 Kilometer langen Kurs in Midvaal bewies Johnson sein Talent und erreichte das Ziel nach 26:51 Minuten mit einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 49,162 km/h – eine beeindruckende Vorstellung in seinem ersten Jahr in der U19-Kategorie. „Dieser Sieg bedeutet mir enorm viel“, erklärte Johnson nach seinem Triumph. „Es ist mein erster nationaler Titel in der U19 und mein erster Erfolg für grenke - Auto Eder. Ein großartiger Auftakt in die Saison und ein riesiger Ansporn für die kommenden Herausforderungen.“Während das Zeitfahren perfekt lief, stellte das 138 Kilometer lange Straßenrennen am Sonntag eine andere Herausforderung dar. In einem chaotischen Rennen rund um Midvaal, das stark von den Entscheidungen der Rennleitung geprägt war, konnte Johnson aufgrund einer Renn-Neutralisation nicht um den Sieg kämpfen und belegte am Ende Platz fünf. „Natürlich hatte ich mir im Straßenrennen mehr erhofft“, gab Johnson zu. „Aber manchmal läuft es einfach nicht nach Plan, und man hat die Umstände nicht in der Hand. Trotzdem nehme ich viel Positives aus diesem Wochenende mit. Ich freue mich auf die kommenden Rennen und kann es kaum erwarten, mit dem Team in Europa zu starten.“David de Klerk, Performance Coach im Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe Rookies Development-Team, war zufrieden mit Johnsons Leistung: „Ich war wirklich beeindruckt von Joshs Auftritt im Einzelzeitfahren. Ich wusste im Voraus, dass er mit einer starken Fahrt der wahrscheinlichste Sieger sein würde – und er hat eine fantastische Leistung abgeliefert! Mit 58 Sekunden Vorsprung auf einer 26-minütigen Strecke zu gewinnen, ist ein klares Statement. Beim Straßenrennen konnte er aufgrund organisatorischer Umstände nicht wirklich um den Sieg fahren. Finn Fisher-Black has become New Zealands champion in the individual time trial. The 23-year-old completed the course, which was quite profiled, faster than anyone else and secured his first championship title in the elite category. Laurence Pithie was the second Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe athlete to start over the 37.4 kilometres and finished fifth.&nbsp;The course with almost 500 metres of elevation gain around Timaru on the east coast of New Zealand's southern island suited Fisher-Black's qualities. Three years ago, he competed in the national elite time trial for the first time and finished fifth. Now it worked out with the first championship jersey. “It was a really hard time trial to pace with the four hard climbs in the course and the windy and rainy conditions, but we came up with a pacing plan that worked really well and I was able to dig deep all the way until the line. I got to the halfway point and still felt I could do another half an hour. I gave a nod to Shane. From there I knew I was on a good day”, Fisher-Black said. “This is my first national title in the elites, it’s a jersey that I’ve won in my junior and u23 years and one I’m always proud to wear so it’s really special to be able to bring this jersey to my new team and to give it a home in the WorldTour&nbsp;again.” And there is another chance for Fisher-Black to win a jersey, as he will compete in the road race on saturday. Finn Fisher-Black is time trial champion of New Zealand

This is what a successful start to the season looks like: Jordi Meeus finished second in his first race of the year for Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe on the first stage of the Etoile de Bessèges. However, the almost exclusively flat 159-kilometre section around Bellegarde ended on a final climb of around 800 meters. There, Meeus was only caught by Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) in the final meters. On behalf of the Frenchman, Meeus will take the points jersey on stage 2.&nbsp;Like the Belgian, his compatriot Maxim Van Gils also presented himself with good legs. He ultimately finished fourth on the final hill. Jan Tratnik also made it into the Top 10, crossing the finish line in eighth place, two seconds behind Meeus. Eleven pros from Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe will compete in their first race of the season this week. From Wednesday to Sunday the team has a double racing schedule. While the GC riders will be preparing for the year's tasks at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (2.Pro) in Spain, some of the classics riders will be competing at the Etoile de Bessèges (2.1) in France.This is only the second time in the team's history that a selection has competed in the small, five-day tour in the south of France. Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe will not only be represented by newcomers Jan Tratnik, Oier Lazkano and Maxim Van Gils, who will all be racing for the team for the first time. Jordi Meeus and Jonas Koch will also be making their season debut. They will be joined by Emil Herzog and Alexander Hajek, who have already raced in Mallorca last week. The race covers everything from potential sprint finishes to a mini mountaintop finish and a short individual time trial in the final stage.<figure class="image image-style-align-center image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="https://bora-hansgrohe-cms.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/PHOTO_2025_02_03_18_22_24_b5d0bd380d.jpg"></figure>Meanwhile, the tasks for the suqad racing in Spain are quite different. While Frederik Wandahl has already achieved a fourth place in Mallorca, the first days of racing await newcomer Gianni Moscon as well as Aleksandr Vlasov, Jai Hindley, Nico Denz, Giovanni Aleotti and Matteo Sobrero. And the first day of racing will be particularly challenging, with one of the few team time trials of the season awaiting the seven pros. While the queen stage, with a finish at over 1000 meters, follows immediately, the GC challenges ease off in the following days. Vlasov in particular has fond memories of the race. In 2022, he celebrated not only a stage win but also his first ever GC victory.
