It’s a dream come true for me. Now I just want to enjoy this moment.
Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe had built its race strategy around the young sprinter. The 197-kilometre stage from Schwäbisch Hall to Offenbach an der Queich was completely flat, particularly in the final third – ideal conditions for a bunch sprint and an opportunity for Magagnotti.
In the finale, Danny van Poppel and Jarrad Drizners used their experience to put the 19-year-old in an ideal position on Magnier’s wheel. From there, Magagnotti took over. The fast-finishing Italian came past in the closing metres to claim the biggest victory of his young career.
Alessio Magagnotti: “This is just incredible. A huge thank you to Danny, Jarrad and the entire team. They set me up brilliantly for this win and put me in the perfect position. I tried to save as much energy as possible and listen to the team’s advice. In the final 50 metres, I just gave it everything and managed to come out on top. It’s a dream come true for me. Now I just want to enjoy this moment.”
From Rookie to pro victory
Magagnotti is part of the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe Rookies squad. With his victory in a UCI ProSeries race, he underlined why the team already trusts him to compete at the highest level.
Magagnotti’s previous best result in the professional ranks came in early February, when he finished third at the Trofeo Palma. He has also enjoyed success on the U23 circuit this season, taking victories at the Istrian Spring Trophy and the Tour de Bretagne.
The Italian had already shown as a junior that racing in Germany suits him. Two years ago, he won two stages of the Saarland Trofeo. With his stage victory at the Deutschland Tour, Magagnotti has now showcased his sprinting talent on one of cycling’s biggest stages.
