The battle for the rainbow jersey could hardly have been more thrilling. In the Elite Short Track race, it all came down to the final metres. European Champion Charlie Aldridge entered the last lap in the lead and set a blistering pace at the front. Adrien stayed right on his wheel, waiting for his opportunity.
Before the final corner, Aldridge launched his sprint early. Adrien responded and managed to edge past his rival in the very last centimetres. After winning the U23 world title last year, the Frenchman is now an Elite World Champion too!
The title marks the highlight so far of an outstanding mountain bike season for Adrien. While he races on the road for Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe, he represents Specialized Factory Racing on the mountain bike. After seven of nine World Cup rounds, he leads the overall Short Track (XCC) standings. He has already claimed three XCC World Cup victories this season, winning in Lenzerheide, Valle d’Aosta and Les Gets.
Adrien is also among the very best in the world in Olympic Cross-Country (XCO). With three World Cup victories in Leogang, Andorra and Les Gets, he currently sits second in the overall standings, just narrowly behind the leader.
And Adrien’s World Championships are not over yet: on Sunday, he will line up for the Cross-Country race in Val di Sole.
