With numerous prestigious victories, the junior team of the WorldTeam Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has once again solidified its exceptional position in international junior cycling. The season review is accordingly positive.
Twenty victories at UCI level, multiple national titles, European Championship medals, and gold at the World Championships – this is the impressive track record of GRENKE - Auto Eder in the 2024 season. Based on the significance of these achievements, the team ends the year as the top U19 team in international junior cycling. As a result, the season review for the Raubling-based youth cycling team is overwhelmingly positive.
The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the world championship title in the road race, claimed by the Italian youngster Lorenzo Finn. Finn celebrated an impressive solo victory at the championship in Zurich. After Emil Herzog (Germany) took gold in 2022, GRENKE - Auto Eder secured its second world title in three years. Additionally, Paul Fietzke (also from Germany) had won the silver medal in 2023. This year, Fietzke once again proved that he is one of the biggest talents in cycling: at the U19 European Championships, he claimed bronze in the time trial and silver in the mixed relay, adding more international medals to the German team’s tally.
More standout performances from the junior squad of WorldTeam Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe include Theodor August Clemmensen’s (Denmark) overall win at the Swiss stage race Grand Prix Rüebliland, Paul Fietzke’s triumph at the Italian one-day race Trofeo Emilio Paganessi, and Lorenzo Finn’s overall win at the Belgian race Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot. Finn also captured two Italian national titles—one in the road race and one in the time trial. Patrick Casey added to the team’s success with his win in the Irish national road race.
The athletes of GRENKE - Auto Eder are now looking forward to their winter break before preparations for the new season begin in early November.
Quote
“With 20 victories at UCI level, this was one of the most successful seasons in our team’s history. Lorenzo Finn’s world championship title on a very challenging course and Paul Fietzke’s two medals at the European Championships—silver and bronze—are certainly the standout achievements. But we’re also especially proud of our wins at prestigious international stage races like Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot and the Grand Prix Rüebliland. From the summer onward, we won the team classification at every race we participated in. A fantastic season.” – Dr. Christian Schrot, Sports Director
