Primož Roglič finished third and Giulio Pellizzari fourth at Milano-Torino, as Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe played a prominent role in the decisive phase on Superga.
Today’s 174-kilometre race was decided, as expected, on the double ascent of the Superga, where the finale sharpened early and the selection began to form well before the summit finish. Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe took control on the first passage of the climb, setting the pace as the race moved toward its critical point.
Roglič was the first of the favourites to force the issue. On the first ascent of Superga, he launched a move with around 20 kilometres remaining, immediately drawing out the main contenders and helping form the front group that would shape the finale. As the descent unfolded, Giulio Pellizzari and Adrien Boichis were among those to bridge across, giving Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe numerical strength at the front.
The team used that advantage proactively. Boichis went up the road on the descent and built a small gap before the final climb, while Roglič and Pellizzari remained in position behind as the race reorganised. Once the move was brought back at the foot of the second ascent of Superga, the focus shifted fully to the summit finish.
There, the front group was reduced once more under pressure from repeated accelerations. Roglič remained at the centre of the action and increased the pace inside the final 1.2 kilometres, helping to stretch the group at a key moment in the climb. But with just over 600 metres to go, Tom Pidcock made the winning move and opened a gap that could not be closed before the line.
Roglič secured third place on the day, five seconds behind the winner, while Pellizzari climbed back strongly in the finale to take fourth, rounding off an impressive afternoon for the team in one of Italian cycling’s most historic races.
