Remco Evenepoel lived up to those ambitions in impressive fashion, claiming his second win in just two days with a commanding solo performance.
With the challenging course profile in mind, Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe had already outlined a clear plan the evening before. Puig Major, Sóller, Lluc — climbs that are part of the team’s regular training routine on Mallorca. The idea was simple: an early move and a long-range attack.
What we showed today was exactly what we had planned.
And that is exactly what happened. After his teammates controlled the race and delivered the crucial groundwork, Evenepoel launched his decisive attack around 100 kilometres from the finish on the Coll de Sóller. He then extended his advantage on the descent, leaving his rivals behind, and rode the final 50 kilometres solo to secure a convincing victory.
Today as really special. What we showed today was exactly what we had planned. I’m really happy that I was able to execute the plan just as we discussed. The whole team was incredibly strong — everyone did what they had to do. Then it was up to me to make the difference on the Sóller climb. In the end, I’m very happy with this result.
