Mission Accomplished: Remco Evenepoel Wins Historic World Time Trial Title
Remco Evenepoel made cycling history in Montréal. The Belgian was crowned World Champion in the individual road time trial for the fourth consecutive time – the first rider ever to achieve this feat.
For Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe, it is the team’s first medal in a World Championship elite time trial.
Remco delivered a start-to-finish victory through the streets of Montréal, leading at every intermediate time check. He completed the 39.2-kilometre course in 44:53 minutes, averaging 52.4 km/h. He finished almost a minute ahead of silver medallist Filippo Ganna.
On a par with Martin and Cancellara
In 2023, after winning bronze in the previous two editions, Remco claimed his first World Championship time trial title. One year later, he successfully defended his title, narrowly beating Ganna once again, before winning his third consecutive title in Rwanda in 2025, finishing more than a minute ahead of Jay Vine in second place.
My goal was to come here and win, to take this fourth title. That was my motivation.
Four consecutive gold medals are unprecedented. No rider has ever won more than four World Championship time trial titles either, meaning Remco has also moved into the record books as joint record holder for the most time trial world titles, alongside Tony Martin and Fabian Cancellara.

Remco Evenepoel: “It’s simply incredible. My goal was to come here and win, to take this fourth title. That was my motivation. Thanks to the team around me and to Specialized for providing me with such great equipment. It was a challenging course, with a technical start and finish and a power section in the middle. After six kilometres, we had taken our own time check, and when I saw that I was in front, I was able to relax a little. Now I have some time to recover, and then I’ll focus on next Sunday.”
