Mattia Cattaneo wins Mixed Relay gold with Italy
Mattia Cattaneo has become World Champion in the Mixed Relay with Italy. The 35-year-old was part of the team that claimed their country’s first-ever gold medal in the 2029 introduced event.
Together with Matteo Sobrero and Filippo Ganna, Mattia formed the Italian men’s trio. After 20.3 kilometres, they handed over to Elisa Longo Borghini, Vittoria Guazzini and Monica Trinca Colonel with an eleven-second lead over France and twelve seconds over Australia. The women defended most of the advantage over the same course to secure the world title.
It was Mattia’s fourth consecutive appearance in the Italian Mixed Relay team. In the previous three years, the team finished fifth, third and fourth. Alongside Romet Pajur, who finished tenth with Estonia, he was the only rider from Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe competing in the event.

With the Mixed Relay complete, Mattia has now finished two thirds of his World Championships in Montréal. He finished 16th in the individual time trial on the opening Sunday and is also part of Italy’s line-up for the final road race.
Mattia Cattaneo: “It was a tough course. But, as in previous years, we had a strong team. We’ve been trying to win this rainbow jersey for so long. Now we’ve finally done it, so I’m very happy.”
