On one of cycling’s most demanding climbs, Jai Hindley and Giulio Pellizzari rose to the challenge with two strong performances. Hindley delivered a composed ride to take third place on the stage, while Pellizzari crossed the line in sixth. Their consistency on the Angliru translated into meaningful gains in the general classification, with Hindley now sitting fourth overall and Pellizzari sixth.
The stage’s decisive moments came on the brutal ramps of the Cueña les Cabres, where gradients touch 23 percent. Hindley showed his experience by pacing his effort and responding strongly in the final kilometres, ultimately securing last spot on the stage podium. Pellizzari climbed steadily at his own rhythm, arriving just behind the day’s best finishers. His result ensured he keeps hold of the white jersey of best young rider, even gaining a few extra seconds in this classification today.
The outcome reflects the team’s solid positioning heading into the second half of the Vuelta. Both Hindley and Pellizzari are firmly inside the top ten on GC, with the white jersey adding a visible reward to Pellizzari’s strong rides so far. After a demanding day, the focus now shifts to Stage 14 and another summit finish at La Farrapona.
Patxi Vila, Sports Director: "The goal today was to climb in the general classification and get closer to the podium. Jai delivered an amazing ride, finishing third just 38 seconds behind Vingegaard and Almeida, which moves him up to fourth overall and closer to the podium. Giulio also impressed. He was dropped early but paced himself extremely well, showing maturity on such a demanding climb. He held his ground in the fight for the white jersey, even gaining a few seconds, despite the Angliru probably suiting Riccitello’s style more than his. Overall it was a very good day. I’m happy with the performances from the guys, with our climbers supported strongly by the team."
