It's rare for a team to occupy an entire podium in a cycling race. But when one squad secures the top five places in an international competition, it’s nothing short of extraordinary. That’s exactly what the grenke – Auto Eder team pulled off at the prestigious Trofeo GD Dorigo in Pieve di Soligo, northern Italy.
With a tactically unified and dominant performance, the U19 squad of Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe controlled the race from start to finish. Italian rider Roberto Capello claimed his first junior category victory after 135 kilometers, followed by teammates Julius Birkedal (Denmark), Georgs Tjumins (Latvia), Noah Lindholm Møller Andersen (Denmark), and Gijs Schoonvelde (Netherlands).
“My first win as a junior – I couldn’t be happier! The team was incredible – we rode perfectly together and controlled the race from start to finish. The intense heat made it tougher, but we handled it well. The result is fantastic,” Capello said at the finish line.
Gregor Gazvoda, who served as Sports Director on-site, was equally impressed: “An outcome like this is anything but normal in international junior cycling. Five riders in the top five – that’s a sign of a powerful collective performance. I’m especially happy for Roberto: he came close several times in the past races and absolutely deserved this win.”
A result like this is by no means an everyday occurrence in international junior cycling.
With this success, the grenke – Auto Eder riders have added another highlight to an already impressive season. The team now has ten victories so far this year. Next up are the national championships in the riders’ respective home countries from June 27 to 29.
